About Wake Forest University
Wake Forest University enrolls over 5,000 undergraduate students who study a liberal arts curriculum that includes a requirement to reach an intermediate level of language study. WFU offers courses in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hindi-Urdu, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish.
Programs of study in language for specific purposes include undergraduate concentrations in Spanish for Business, Spanish for Health Professions, French for Business, a Certificate in Chinese for the Global Workplace, and a concentration in German for Business for students in the Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy.
The Wake Forest University School of Medicine offers a Scholarly Concentration in Medical Applied Education in Spanish through Training, Resources, and Overlearning (MAESTRO). The MAESTRO Program aims to train culturally respectful Spanish-speaking providers who will go on to care for the increasing number of Hispanic patients in Winston-Salem and across the U.S. The ultimate goal of the MAESTRO program is to make a contribution in the fight against health inequities. We seek to equip medical students with the necessary cultural awareness and communication skills to care effectively for Spanish-speaking patients and positively impact the health and well-being of this growing and under-served population.
